The event I have been furiously talking about has came and went like an autumn leaf. It was SUCH an amazing time. I visited a great city and state I have never been to before. (New Orleans, Louisana) Cemented lasting friendships while creating more and also learned about a great new platform, (shhh it’s a secret!) but with all good things we must start at the beginning.
Friday July 23 I woke up crazy early and made a mad rush to the airport to catch a flight to NOLA. I was decked out in my World’s Best Cat Litter T-shirt and had a handful of ppl comment on it. Most questions were “So what IS the World’s Best Cat Litter?” While I was on the plane it hit me. This is the first trip I’ve taken on a plane out of state by myself EVER. Kinda scary, but exciting at the same time. When we landed at around 9:25 I grabbed my luggage and started looking for my wonderful friend and partner in crime Brittany Greer from The Greer Five.
Brittany is my kindred spirit. I swear we could finish each others sentences. So we grabbed a cab to The Prince Conti Hotel. The hotel was perfectly New Orleans Chic. It was like Stephen King and Marie Antoinette had a baby. Of course since our room mate Paule from Frosted Fingers was not there yet we could not check into our room. So we stashed our luggage with the bell hops and we were on our way!
We checked in over at Trisha’s suite and said hey then headed out to experience New Orleans. We ate breakfast at a cute little cafe and stopped by the Marie Laveau’s house of voodoo. It was amazing. I was not allowed to take pictures inside the shop, but it lived up to what I thought it would be. Of course there were your cheesy voodoo items, but there were also some authentic ones and of course I had to buy a Green “Good Luck” Bag of gris gris before leaving. I must say that I think it worked since I had such a great time this weekend. 😉
What’s a girl to do in New Orleans around 3pm on a Friday? Head to Bourbon St. of course!! We wandered around for awhile looking from bar to bar then found what was our bar away from home for the rest of the weekend. Great atmosphere and fun times. Tara Salinas from Global Resort Homes also joined us. After a few hours laughing it up and a hurricane or 2 later we went back to the hotel and got dressed up for our night at Harrah’s NOLA.
The Besh Steakhouse was great! Wonderful food which included House-made “Natchitoches Meat Pies” with buttermilk dressing, Garlic Crusted Louisiana Shrimp over crushed hot-house tomatoes and “mac ‘n cheese”, and Brendan’s Bread Pudding with Irish whiskey ice cream and toffee sauce. Yes it was yummy and I ate too much. At this point we were able to chat with our fellow bloggers who we have “known”, but never met. This is why this particular meetup was more valuable than any conference. (Except Disney, but ya’ll know I’m a Disney nut)
After dinner we went on a Haunted Ghost Tour of the City. (Thanks Lingerie.com!) First, it was hot. Second, it was hot and humid. Third, it was hot, humid, and long. It was a tad creepy hearing all those true ghost stories and just feeling how old the city was around us. I think we all had blisters from that night. It was also a great chance for me to chit chat with Jessica Benton from That Tech Chick and Kat Robertson from For The Love of Chaos. (who ALSO tried out for American Idol because she is THAT good!)
From there it was Bourbon St. until we couldn’t walk anymore! I just want to thank Trisha from Momdot and Leah from Bookieboo for planning such a wonderful trip and World’s Best Cat Litter for sponsoring me.
