I’m Penelope from Penelope’s Oasis, a site where I write about family life, delicious recipes, and more. I’m a mom of one son and a lover of crafts. Today I’m going to share a fun craft you can do with your children on my friend Kas’ blog, and it’s a great way to decorate your home for the holidays with children four and older.
To do this simple and fun craft, all you need are safety scissors and paper. We used white paper (for our white snowflakes) but there is no reason you can’t be creative and used colored paper, metallic paper, etc. Take your sheet of paper and fold it diagonally to create a triangle (photo below), and cut off the excess paper. Save this scrap to make additional smaller snowflakes later. You are left with a piece of paper that when opened is a perfect square.
Fold the paper diagonally again to create a triangle, and continue to fold a total of three times. Take your scissors, and have fun cutting out little shapes from each side, making sure not to cut off an entire length of fold that holds the paper together. Cut into the paper, not along the fold. Just like no two snowflakes are alike, no two of your own homemade paper snowflakes will be alike- each will be beautiful and different in it’s own way!
When you are done, open up the paper to find a beautiful, original snowflake. You can decorate your home with them, hang them on your windows or walls, string them up on your tree as ornaments, etc, especially if you embellish them with glitter and make them in many different sizes. Have fun with this fun craft, and have a great holiday season!
