Disney/Pixar’s BRAVE Movie Review

Within the first few minutes of BRAVE you see a beautiful landscape that is engaging. The colors, textures, and overall feel of the movie sucks you right in. You can immediately tell the 3D in this film is about gags. It’s used for realism. BRAVE brings you to Scotland and the land itself becomes it’s own character. In fact I’ve mentioned to the husband a few times now how much I’d love to go to Scotland one day.

The main thing I loved about this film is that it’s not your typical Disney Princess movie. Merida is a string willed to the point of stubborn young woman. This is more about a mother/daughter story. As a mother the Queen resonated with me since my daughter is just as stubborn as I. However, I was once that willful teenager so I could connect with her as well. Those teenage years are the hardest for both sides and BRAVE captured that perfectly.

I will let it slip that there is a witch. There has to be a bit of an evil bad guy, but again not your typical witch. For the big Pixar fans watch for the woodcarving scene. You might see some of your favorite Pixar Easter Eggs in that particular scene. I think we are starting to show a shift in the Classic Fairy Tale story now. We want stronger characters and BRAVE is proof of that. Overall BRAVE delivers that great Diseny/Pixar punch we love so well. I won’t give away the big twist, but if you HAVE seen the movie I’d love to know what you thought about it. Going to see it again? We are!

LOVED this movie and I agree, the 3D really enhanced the movie and made you felt like you were right there – instead of being the silly in-your-face 3D gags that we usually associate with 3D. The story was beautiful and both my 3 year old and my 13 year old LOVED it too! Great review!

I didn’t see the 3D version because we have a small town theater, but I can’t agree more — I loved this movie!
