***Disclosure: I am working with Purina One and have been provided with food and tools to learn about the True Nature Of Cats. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.***
Have you ever wondered why your cat stalks moving shadows? Or pounces on their toys? These behaviors are a reflection of a cat’s natural instincts, and Purina ONE has made it its mission to educate on awakening cats’ True Nature in order to enrich their lives every day. As a blogger and cat owner to Bruiser, Purina ONE would like to invite you on a journey to discover YOUR cat’s True Nature.
So what exactly is the True Nature of Cats movement? By studying the habits of African wildcats (which is believed to be the closet relative of the domestic cat), Purina ONE identified several ways to help your cat be who they were born to be, including proper nutrition, like new Healthy Metabolism wet and dry formulas specially formulated for the changing nutritional needs of spayed and neutered cats, safe outdoor experiences like leash walking and purposeful play.
• Try offering your cat food in a flat dish, such as a plate.
Bruiser really likes his Pioneer Pet Products Wet Food Dish. I like it because it’s SO easy to clean. Eating the wet food is much easier from a flat dish instead of a bowl. Why is this good for cats?
It helps with “whisker stress” which is when a cat’s whiskers rib against the edges of a food dish or a bowl.
• Incorporate new toys that are irresistible to your cat’s inner hunter
We’ve added 2 new toys into Bruiser’s playtime. First up is da bird. He’s not really liking this. I mean he swats at it, but his heart isn’t into it.
On the other hand he is in LOVE with the KONG Cat Cozie Kickeroo Catnip Toy .
He attacks it, kicks it, and even hides it from us under chairs in the living room. This is HIS toy and boy does he let you know it. My big ole cat will even jump up super high for this one. Check it out:
He’s a nut when it comes to this toy! Since it’s on Amazon and cheap I know what Santa is putting in his stocking this year!
• Increase your cat’s time wearing the harness to one hour, a few times each day.
I feel like this is a losing battle. If anyone has any tips they are greatly appreciated. Even wen he sees the harness he starts getting grumpy. Now he just lays down on the floor and puts all his weight on it and rolls. Back and forth. Back and forth. He does the same thing when hooked up to it outside. He would rather not go outside at all.
• Monitor your cat’s responses to the different toys and feeding experience.
One thing we’ve noticed is he doesn’t like wet food every day. It’s a bonus food for him. My journal says, “Cats are born to stalk, leap, and pounce, and these behaviors should be fostered.” I couldn’t agree more. If you have a cat I recommend you take the #TrueNatueOfCats journey with him/her. I promise both you and your cat will be happier.
eep checking in! I’ll update you next week with even more adventures and you can always follow along via twitter with the #TrueNatureOfCats hashtag.
