One summer I entered a crazy hat contest where I “stole” stuff from around the hotel and attached it to my hat (napkins, tea bags, matchbooks, …). I would have won but a baby entered with an ice bucket to win…..

    Margaret Smith says:

My husband, not one for asking for directions was driving us to Cape cod. While trying to find our hotel, which was taking forever, my kids and I kept asking him if he was lost. He kept saying no, but when we ended up on a dead end street to ended at a cemetary, he finally had to admit he was lost. To this day, my kids and I still tease him about his not asking for directions.

I took my husband on a work trip to Hawaii, where he proposed! I guess I should say I took my boyfriend, he wasn’t my husband yet….
When he proposed, I couldn’t say yes right away because I was eating Cheetos and my mouth was full. And my fingers were orange, and I didn’t have a napkin, so I liked them clean. So classy! Fortunately, the offer was still good even after that.

I remember when we got soaked while at Sea World… gotta love the FL showers. Anyways, since we were so wet, but still walking around the park, my husband’s thighs were rubbing and starting to bother him. We all thought it was so funny because he looked like he was walking with a corn cob up his bottom because he was trying not to let his legs rub.

    Angela Kinder says:

One time we were going to Fossil Rim (in Glenn Rose, TX) but he refused to get directions. We actually ended up 30 minutes out of town and had to find a store that sold a Texas map!

    D SCHMIDT says:

My funniest memory is when my parents had planned this fantastic beach vacation that turned into a nightmare. On the first day we realized that the hotel was actually less than desirable so my parents at short notice managed to find a caravan to stay in. It then rained for the whole 9 days we were there and I managed to come down with Chicken Pox! That said it was fun just being a family

    Sandy VanHoey says:

Many years ago, we were heading to Florida from Michigan with the kids and stopped at a place in TN. It was a very weird place, something that seemed like out of a movie. The people gave us terrible looks and we felt uncomfortable. We stayed and my husband laid next to the window to keep an eye on our van. The next morning, I had gotten up and left to go get coffee and some donuts for the kids. He heard the van and tore out of the room chasing ME thinking someone took off with our vehicle and he was in his underwear and all. The kids got all scared thinking someone stole our van so at the time, not too funny to them.

We had a beach vacation when I was really young. My mom had just taken off her swimsuit and threw on her bathrobe. She went outside real quick to hang the swimswuit on the rail in front of our room, and somehow, I managed to shut the door and accidentally lock her out of the room. She was stuck outside in nothing but a bathrobe! Luckily, a very helpful maid was able to help her out and get back outside.

I remember we were on DC on vacation and decided to go the zoo and we were on the train (first time) with my aunt and my 1yo daughter in a stroller and we missed getting off because we were slow and in a different car than everyone else and we had to wait for another train and get back on to get to the correct drop off —my family members thought this was hilarious

I was walking down the beach and suddenly a Mexican lady just busted up laughing as she walked past me. I didn’t realize until later that she was laughing at my feet. She had never seen anything like the shoes I was wearing.

A few years my sister and I went to Palm Beach and got terrible sunburn – but just on our feet, from forgetting to re-apply sunblook there while on the beach. We ended up having to walk very slowly and gingerly for the entire week, and we got tons of odd looks everywhere we went. Eventually we created characters for ourselves to go along with our challenged mobility and had a blast with it!
