“Wind’s in the east, mist comin’ in. Like something is brewin’ about to begin Can’t put me finger on what lies in store But I feel what’s to happen, all happened before.” —Bert in “Mary Poppins”
Saving Mr. Banks is a true kick to the heart. It gives us the story behind one of Disney’s most loved films Mary Poppins. How the author P.L. Travers had her own ideas about what it should be and how frustrated she was at Walt Disney for in her mind “distorting the facts”. you see to most people Mary Poppins comes to save the kids, but in reality she is there to save the father.
Along the way you see that the characters in Mary Poppins are near and dear to Miss P.L. Travers heart and she didn’t want to part with the. She wore those working on the movie to the very nubs and the movie almost didn’t happen.
Then Walt “gets it”. After 20 years of being told No by this woman he understands…..and slowly wins her over. After all a little magic never hurt anyone. 😉
This movie captured by heart. I laughed, I cried, I can’t wait to own it on DVD and take the family to see it on the big screen. In fact we will probably go see this on Christmas Day after we stuff ourselves full of a Good Country Christmas Dinner. How about you?
Inspired by true events, “Saving Mr. Banks” is the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen—and the testy relationship that the legendary Walt Disney had with author P.L. Travers that almost derailed it.
SAVING MR. BANKS opens in theaters limited NOW and opens wide on December 20, 2013!
