With all the YA fiction hitting the screens the past few years there may be a bit of burn out on the subject. Then something comes along that is a little bit different and re-awakens the whole genre again. Here’s the synopsis:
In a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Based on the worldwide bestselling novel by Veronica Roth, DIVERGENT is directed by Neil Burger, with a screenplay by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor. DIVERGENT arrives in theaters & IMAX nationwide NOW.
So let’s break it down. The biggest thing is THERE IS NO LOVE TRIANGLE! To me, that in itself is awesome because really how many times can we keep seeing it played out. This film brings emotions, it makes you think about your own individuality, it brings up great conversations with the kiddos over what “factions” we would be.
I believe as Tris and Four do. There should be 1 faction. We should all strive to be Selfless, Peaceful, Honest, Brave, and Intelligent. Don’t define yourself.
The film sticks close to the book and as a book hoarder I like that it drifts just enough away for it to stand on its own as a film. The casting was SPOT ON and it was action packed fun for the whole family. Both the boys and the girls will be in line for this film. I can’t wait for the rest of the trilogy!
