***Disclosure: I attended #ABCTVEvent. My flight, lodgings, and expenses were covered by Disney, ABC, and myself. All opinions are 100% mine. ***
While in LA for the #ABCTVEvent I had a unique opportunity to talk with the “Moms of ABC”. It was a great reception that ABC held for us bloggers where we could connect with the ancestresses of our favorite ABC shows one on one. Here is a list of the awesome talent who stopped by:
- Wendi McLendon-Covey of THE GOLDBERGS
Wendi McLendon-Covey has never been busier: In addition to her role on ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” which is on is on Tuesdays at 9pm. She is currently shooting the film “Think Like a Man 2.” Audiences will also be able to see her this winter in “A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle,” opposite Robin Williams, Joel McHale and Lauren Graham, and next year co-starring in Tyler Perry’s “Single Mom’s Club.”
McLendon-Covey got her start at the world famous Groundling Theater in Los Angeles, where she excelled at improv and sketch comedy. She is perhaps best known for her starring roles in “Bridesmaids,” “Reno 911,” “Lovespring International” and the television series “Rules of Engagement.” Her work in such independent films as “Spooner,” “Douchebag,” “Boutonniere” and others has been appreciated in film festivals from Sundance to Cannes. In 2007, at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, McLendon-Covey was given a Film Discovery Award, created specifically to commemorate her starring roles in two entirely improvised films, “Closing Escrow” and “Cook-Off,” which she co-wrote. Her producing credits include “GILF,” “Waffle Hut” and “Cook-Off.”
McLendon-Covey resides in Los Angeles with her husband.
Wendi and all of the actresses looked amazing, but something about her style was just awesome. She looked like she had literally walked over from a fab 70s photoshoot. We chatted about the show and life in general. She is a DOLL and is funny in everything she is in.
Amanda Fuller first captured the hearts of audiences as intern Morgan Peterson on “Grey’s Anatomy.” In addition to her current role on “Last Man Standing,” she is also working on the indie thriller “Cheap Thrills,” alongside Ethan Embry, Sara Paxton, David Koechner and Pat Healy.
Fuller spends her down time polishing her craft and playing with other mediums of art. She has become a skilled photographer and writer, and is currently writing her first feature. She also enjoys painting and traveling. With two dogs of her own, Fuller is passionate about animals and is active in many animal rescue charities that strive to make a difference in animal treatment. Last Man standing is on Fridays at 8pm
Ming Na plays Agent Melinda May on ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” which airs Tuesdays at 8pm. Ming-Na Wen is best known for her series regular role on NBC’s hit show, “ER,” where she played Dr. Jing-Mei ‘Deb’ Chen. She also played Camile Wray on “SGU Stargate Universe” and recurred on “Eureka.”
In the film world, Wen starred opposite Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning in “Push,” and voiced the role of Mulan in Disney’s animated hit, “Mulan.” She has also been a regular on such television shows as Josh Berman’s “Vanished” and “As the World Turns,” in addition to recurring on the hit show “Two and a Half Men.”
Ming-Na was a delight. She has such an infectious smile and laugh that we were all having a great time snapping pics and chatting. She’s EXCELLENT on S.H.I.E.L.D and I love seeing where her character is going next.
PATRICIA HEATON stars as Frankie on ABC’s “The Middle” which is on Wednesdays at 8pm. Patricia Heaton is perhaps best known for her role as Debra Barone on the award-winning series “Everybody Loves Raymond.” She won two Emmy Awards for the role and was nominated seven times. Marty Weaver (Lenny Venito) just wanted the best for his wife, Debbie (Jami Gertz), and their three kids, and moving from an apartment in Bayonne to Hidden Hills, New Jersey — a gated community complete with its own golf course — was a step in the right direction. Of course the fact that the entire community is comprised of aliens from the planet Zabvron, and that the Weavers are the first humans who have lived amongst them, presents some challenges. But as the Weavers and the aliens face the struggles of everyday life together, they discover that some things – the ups and downs of marriage, the desire to be a good parent and connect with your children – are universal… intergalactic even. Despite the fact that they’re not even the same species, both humans and Zabvronians had a lot to learn from each other. The Weavers realize they’ve found an ally in the family next door.
“The Neighbors” airs on Fridays at 8:30pm and stars Jami Gertz as Debbie Weaver, Lenny Venito as Marty Weaver, Simon Templeman as Larry Bird, Toks Olagundoye as Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Clara Mamet as Amber Weaver, Tim Jo as Reggie Jackson, Ian Patrick as Dick Butkus, Max Charles as Max Weaver and Isabella Cramp as Abby Weaver.
Jami was adorable. I’ve been a fan of hers for years so I was a bit star struck at first. Then we bonded over trying to find “balance” with work and family. As we chatted I realized she struggles with the same concepts of parenting as I do. It was wonderful of her to be so down to earth. I hope to meet her again, but until then I’ll keep watching The Neighbors.
MALIN AKERMAN plays Kate on ABC’s “Trophy Wife” which is on Tuesdays at 9:30pm. Named one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch in 2007, Swedish-Canadian actress Malin Akerman has since been tearing up Hollywood with her beauty and charisma, her sharp comedic timing and her touching dramatic performances. In 2012 she graced the big screen in “Wanderlust,” with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, sang alongside Tom Cruise in the musical adaptation of the Broadway hit “Rock of Ages,” and starred in Sebastian Gutierrez’s nod to classic film noir, “Hotel Noir,” with Rosario Dawson, Danny Devito and Carla Gugino.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Akerman moved to Toronto, Canada at the age of two. By age five she had begun to model and act in television commercials, and at 17 won the “Ford Supermodel of Canada” search. After attending college as a psychology major, she relocated to California to focus on acting. It was there she met her drummer husband, Roberto, while she was lead singer of the alternative rock band The Petalstones. The two currently reside in Los Angeles. In her spare time Akerman enjoys volunteering for organizations such as the Environmental Media Association and Opportunity International.
Malin was a ball of sunshine as soon as she walked into the reception. She was jumping in and out of photos, selfies, and just bringing a bright energy to the night. I’ve been a fan of hers for some time and Trophy Wife is my new favorite show! So make sure you check it and all the other great shows on ABC.
