I’m a HUGE fan of the MARVEL franchise and what I like most is that they keep surprising me. Each movie is unique in it’s own way and fights to it’s place within the MARVEL universe. When I first heard about Guardians of the Galaxy…..Let’s just say I wasn’t quite sure what to think. Some aliens, some superheroes, assassins, a tree like creature, and a crazy racoons. It sounds like the start of a bad joke right. Well James Gunn flipped the script and make this film about heart, loyalty, friendship, and love.
When we first meet Peter Quill aka Star lord you get a feeling he might not be your stereotypical superhero. He’s the superhero I’ve always wanted though. Someone who can dance, be flawed, be heroic, and kick some ass. Chris Pratt encompassed all of these things in the film and I was rooting for Peter Quill from the beginning. Even if he was up to no good.
Slowly we start meeting the rest of the cast:
- Gamora is an assassin with a huge heart behind her tough exterior. She is also the “daughter” of Thanos…which comes with strings.
- Drax has had everything ripped from him by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. He’s full of grief, hatred, and vengence from losing his wife and child. He’s also very literal.
- Rocket…well what can you say about a modified Racoon who can talk and loves to blow things up while making inappropriate jokes. You get lost in his character.
- Finally, rounding out of Guardians is Groot. A man of little words that mean so much
Then things start happening at a fast pace. They are outrunning Ronan, Ravagers, and Nova Core attempting to sell and item of unknown origin. They slowly realize that this object is powerful and must chance tactics and protect what is in the orb at all costs. Friendship, hilarity, and lots of fighting and blasting occur. What happens?? Well you have to head to the theaters over the weekend and find out!
The soundtrack: Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is the music that binds the movie together. It does in such a way that the entire audience was singing right a long. It’s infectious and heartbreaking at times. I promise once you see this film you will own the soundtrack. I do and the kids play it more than anything.
Bottom Line GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
Then come back and tell me who you liked the best..
