FIRST The Matches
KICKOFF MATCH: ROB VAN DAM VS CESARO
Few Superstars know how to get a party started quite like Rob Van Dam. The hardcore high-flyer cranked it up to 11 in his SummerSlam Kickoff Match victory over Cesaro, toppling the Swiss Superman.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON VS BRIE BELLA
They’re sisters, they’re reality television co-stars and, until SummerSlam, they were the best of friends. However, inside the sold-out STAPLES Center, the closer-than-close relationship between The Bella Twins proved to be the most stunning casualty in the brutal war between Brie Bella and Stephanie McMahon.
Let’s be honest. I think we were all rooting for Stephanie! I know I was. It’s been over 10 years since she’s been in the ring, but the girl kicked butt. Of course, this was on that had a lot of emotional back story to it and after Nikki’s betrayal Stephanie had enough. Brie did hold her own, but with some hair pulling and a DDT Stephanie took the win. (YES!)
RANDY ORTON VS ROMAN REIGNS
Orton came to WWE Network’s pay-per-view looking for retribution, feeling that Reigns had cost him an opportunity at the WWE World Heavyweight Title several weeks ago. For his part, Reigns was stepping through the ropes looking for one thing: respect.
This fight I had no favorite. (I know I know) The husband was for Orton. It was a good match with Roman Reigns defanging The Viper Randy Orton with a thunderous Spear making him the winner.
LUMBERJACK MATCH: SETH ROLLINS VS DEAN AMBROSE
Having vowed to make Seth Rollins’ life miserable, Dean Ambrose finally got his hands on his former Shield teammate in a Lumberjack Match.
Now THIS was a bit crazy. It had everything. Former teammates, Betrayal, Lumberjacks (some Damien Sandow even dressed like one), and utter chaos. Things were going ok then chaos ensued when their fight ended up OUTSIDE the barrier and on the floor of the STAPLES Center. Sooooo who comes out?? Why Corporate Kane. Who then tried to regain both wrestlers back in the ring. With everything going haywire Seth Rollins tried to run, but ohhh no it wasn’t going to be that easy. The lumberjacks got him. More fight then Dean Ambrose used Seth Rollins’ own Curb Stomp and you think he’s going to win, but NOPE-Kane intervenes. Which in turn makes Goldust pretty upset so he SLAPS Kane. You that it was chaos before…..it’s no holds barred now and somewhere along the way Seth Rollins bangs the suitcase with the metal money right into Deans head and takes the win. I gotta say I was ready for Seth to get his, but this match was so incredible that it was worth it.
FLAG MATCH: JACK SWAGGER VS RUSEV
During an intense Flag Match, Rusev survived Jack Swagger’s Patriot Lock and locked in the Accolade to make The Real American submit.
CHRIS JERICHO VS BRAY WYATT
Bray Wyatt faced Chris Jericho at The Biggest Party of the Summer to see who was WWE’s true savior. In the end, The New Face of Fear showed Y2J and the WWE Universe that he is far from a false prophet; quite the opposite in fact.
Ugh. So I was half watching this to do a few things around the house and after all I *KNEW* Jericho would win. I’m all for creepy, but “The New Face Of Fear” just gives me the creeps. So when I hear Brian yell OH NO I run back in just to see Wyatt give my guy the kiss of Sister Abigail for an apparently 2nd time for the win. 🙁 Sad face
INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: THE MIZ VS DOLPH ZIGGLER
Intercontinental Champion The Miz may have felt that he (and his Moneymaker) had the home field advantage in Hollywood, but there was no stopping the determined Dolph Ziggler at The Biggest Party of The Summer. The Showoff finally got his hands on The Miz with the championship at stake at SummerSlam and made the most of his golden opportunity, connecting with a thunderous Zig Zag to capture the Intercontinental Title!
It may be just me, but The Miz just gets on my nerves so I was happy on this outcome.
DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: AJ LEE VS PAIGE
AJ Lee and Paige’s “frenemy” status reached an intense peak at SummerSlam, as The Diva of Tomorrow earned a monumental victory over The Black Widow to claim the Divas Championship for a second time.
Once again a heated DIVA’s match where friendship status or in this case “frenemy” is called into question. Can I just say one more time these girls can THROW DOWN! Of course, there was some hair pulling involved. When is there 2 women who fight without it, but once that was over things got heated. AJ flew from ringpost got Paige locked in the Black Widow. Paige got her wind back and came back for the win by slamming AJ into the mat and going for the DDT.THEN she added insult to injury by picking AJ’s face off the mat giving her a swift kis and yelling “I’m still your friend!”. I see more catfights in the future.
Ugh….Double Ugh…I have to say my heart is broken. 🙁 SUPER sad face. I’m #TeamCena all the way and in the Biggest Fight of The Summer….well he got his a$$ beat.
At a certain point during John Cena’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship defense against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014, members of the WWE Universe had to ask themselves, “When does a match stop being a match and start being a televised assault?”
That picture and that quote is what I felt watching the match. It….was….BRUTAL. Just how much did My guy suffer?
Two F-5’s, countless punches thrown with bad intentions, and 16 — yes, 16 — German suplexes
It hurt to watch. At this point I think I can say this and people will back me up Lesner needs to go back to MMA. He can do the beatdowns over there. *sigh* I know, I know. I just feel bad for him
BUT overall it was a great show. an EPIC one that will definitely go down in history. What did you think?
