It’s National Fire Prevention Week
What does that mean for you? Well, everyone’s favorite movie: PLANES: Fire & Rescue is celebrating the National Fire Prevention Week with the NFPA. Did you know that many people don’t test their smoke alarms as often as they should? When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. You need working smoke alarms to give you time to get out. Test yours every month!
While I was out in sunny California I visited the Van Nuys Air Tanker Unit and got my very own lesson in how to SAFELY put out a fire at home with an extinguisher. Check it out here:
Putting out fires!!! #fireandrescue #DisneyInHomeEvent
The most important thing I learned that I should know, but did not do when faced with an actual fire was:
You never turn your back on a fire.
Going with the extinguisher you focus on the bottom of the fire and you slowly go back and forth. When the fire is out you slowly back away, but NEVER turn your back.
We were able to get up, close, and personal with a few of the planes and machines. Check out this Quebec super scooper. Which if you look closely was an inspiration for Dipper.
They are literally on call. They could be called into action at anytime. With the California drought happening they are seeing much more action than a normal fire season.
We also saw the Erickson Air Crane which was VERY impressive and the inspiration for Windtalker.
