as a blogger I get a lot of emails. There are days when I become what I call “delete happy” I just hold my finger over the delete button and try to go through and make a dent in my inbox. This sometimes mean I’ll turn down things because I’m backed up. I was doing this when an email practically SCREAMED at me from my inbox. I glanced and saw three words SKYWALKER RANCH and PIXAR. Pause. Let that sink in for a second. I literally froze in my chair. When I double clicked to read the actual email I didn’t even know what to do. I picked up the phone and called the husband and just said “Dude…I’m going to Skywalker Ranch AND Pixar for 2 press events in January. Have fun!” and hung up. He immediately called back for details and said of course. SO here’s what we will be doing and I’ll be tweeting and sharing everything via social media so you can follow along:
Skywalker Ranch, located 40 minutes north of San Francisco, is the pastoral home to Lucasfilm’s celebrated audio postproduction facility, Skywalker Sound.
Skywalker Sound occupies the 153,000-square-foot Technical Building, which features a world-class scoring stage, six mix studios, ADR and Foley stages, 34 editing suites, and a 300-seat screening room. The property also includes the iconic Main House and the beautiful Lake Ewok.
Lucasfilm is among the world’s leading entertainment service companies, a pioneer in visual effects and sound across multiple mediums, and is home to the legendary Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.
Founded by visionary filmmaker George Lucas in 1971, Lucasfilm was acquired in December 2012 by The Walt Disney Company.
This is seriously a #bucketlist adventure for me. I watched all of the Stars Wars films and am a bit of a George Lucas fan to say the list which is why I’m crazy excited to screen Strange Magic. We will be interviewing Elijah Kelley (voice of “Sunny”) – @elijah_kelley and Director Gary Rydstrom. We will also tour the main house, the outside grounds and shop at the ranch store!
“Strange Magic,” a new animated film from Lucasfilm Ltd., is a madcap fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic bring to life the fanciful forest turned upside down with world-class animation and visual effects. Directed by Gary Rydstrom (“Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation,” “Lifted”) from a story by George Lucas, “Strange Magic” will be released by Touchstone Pictures on Jan. 23, 2015.
While in San Francisco we will spend time at the famous house of PIXAR! I’ve been before and I’m ready to go again. They really transform the grounds for every movie they are working on so I’m sure there are some fun and unique touches that I can’t wait to share with you all. This time we will be immersed in all things Inside Out and the short film Lava. Which will include INSIDE OUT presentation with Director Pete Docter and Producer Jonas Rivera LAVA screening and Q&A with Director James Ford Murphy and Producer Andrea Warren.
From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school. Hits theaters June 19, 2015
