Disney’s shorts have been around for a long time. The past few years they have used these shorts to convey a certain emotion.
PATRICK OSBORNE (Director) is behind Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new short “Feast,” taking the film from conception to completion.
Osborne joined WDAS as an animator on the 2008 feature film “Bolt,” and went on to work on the “Prep & Landing” movies and Disney’s 2010 hit “Tangled.” Osborne served as head of animation for WDAS’ Oscar®-winning short “Paperman,” and acted as co-head of animation for the upcoming feature “Big Hero 6” prior to assuming full-time directing duties for “Feast.”
While at the press junket for the In Home Release of Big Hero 6 we sat in during a presentation by Patrick Osborne. The presentation itself was very interesting and a bit like how they pitch to the think tank. He told us it all started out with the concept of food. Why we eat certain foods based on moods, feelings, etc. So he took his phone and did 1 sec. videos of all the different meals he ate for a time and used that to pitch. Once he got approval things started developing.
The film is told through the eyes of adorable Winston. He starts out as a puppy whose owner give him all the attention he could want……AND human food to go with it. Then slowly in the background we see his owner find love which to Winston means different meals. More vegetables, etc. until it’s back to plain dog food.
Will Winston get his gourmet food back? Will his owner stay in love? I won’t give away the ending, but will give you the emotion: Heartwarming.
