Monkey Kingdom swings into theaters tomorrow April 17th just in time for Earth Day. I personally love a good Disneynature film. They are films that have a great story, animals you connect with, and are super informative without being boring and Monkey Kingdom does all of that.
So What’s This Movie About?
The film takes you on a journey to the heart of Monkey Kingdom. A set of Ancient Ruins in Sri Lanka South Asia. . There we meet a troop of macaque monkey and learn all about the hierarchy and peek behind the dynamics of this group. When the film starts outMaya is at the bottom of the pack. Eating leftovers, being trampled over by the kiddos in the troop, etc. There’s the King and the 3 sisters who are the power behind the king and boy do they know.
Then something magical happens. Maya meets someone. At first things don’t go so well, but thanks to a little monkeying around Maya welcome young Kip into the world. Maya wants to give her son a better life. Something that all parents can relate to. What follows is that troop falling into a bit of chaos and thrown out of their comfortable home in Monkey Kingdom to the jungle and city beyond.
They have to learn a “new” family dynamic and the original hierarchy goes out the window as they struggle to find their way back to Castle Rock.
Like I’ve said before I loved the film. I personally connected to Maya’s struggle and even though she may be a monkey I could understand her hardships. I can’t wait for my family to see this film, especially may daughter Isabella. She loves animals period and this one with the story, hijinks, and adorable babies will be a favorite for sure!
