So many rides to choose from! If you are in a hurry I have the top 3 rides at Disneyland’s Tomorrowland section for you to hop on for the best time:
#3: Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
This one ranks #3 as it’s something you can only do at Disneyland. Fun for kids of all ages
Into the Deep
Board the yellow research submarine of the Nautical Exploration and Marine Observation Institute (N.E.M.O.). Sit at one of the portholes where you will be dazzled by the underwater curiosities as your submarine dives fathoms beneath the surface. Your mission is to explore a newly erupting undersea volcano!
Float past the scattered ruins of an ancient civilization that rest on the floor of a lush kelp forest, recently uncovered by the volcanic explosions. Watch deep sea divers as they search for diverse exotic fish.
Then hang on as your sub dives down further to avoid a coming sea storm.
Thanks to the “sonar hydrophones,” you can hear the fish darting about in the bubbles outside of your sub as they chatter amongst themselves. It’s Nemo and his wee turtle pal Squirt! Nemo’s dad, Marlin, isn’t far behind. Your submarine follows Marlin as he searches Nemo, passing myriad aquatic wonders including the East Australian Current, a graveyard of sunken ships and much, much more!
The Alternate Show On Shore
Film fans won’t want to miss the familiar seagulls perched on the red buoy tethered to the seafloor as they clamor, “Mine! Mine! Mine!” And for those unable to negotiate the steps down into the hatch or who simply wish to stay ashore, enter the Observation Outpost at the end of the dock. Manned by a member of the N.E.M.O. Institute, this facility offers a high-definition video version of the voyage via onboard “SubCam.”
Submarine Magical Magnets
The submarines are powered by something called Inductive Power Transfer (IPT). A magnetically coupled pair of coils transfers the power without physical contact, eliminating electrical contacts under water. One coil travels with the sub as it draws power from an electrical grid. While this kind of system has been used for other rides, this is the first time it has been used long-term under water!
#2: Star Tours
This one is an all time favorite with my family at both Disneyland and Disney World. With the new updates you never know what world you will end up traveling to and with all the excitement of the upcoming Star Wars film this makes it a go to attraction.
Star Tours, presented in brilliant digital 3D, is a thrilling journey through George Lucas’ Star Wars universe. Board a Starspeeder 1000 and travel to intergalactic destinations, see popular characters and experience exciting adventures. A galaxy of trouble awaits, but don’t worry, the Force will be with you, always!
You never know where the Force might take you. With multiple storylines and locations, many different Star Tours adventures await you. Riding once is not enough!
Glide among the trees with Wookiees on Kashyyyk, kick up some desert sand in a podrace on Tatooine, dive into the lakes of Naboo, weave through the bustling city-planet of Coruscant, blast through the blizzards of Hoth or even help attack the heavily defended Death Star!
Star Wars Characters
Fly with some of your favorite Star Wars characters! C-3PO is aboard as your pilot. Plus, you never know which of your favorite characters you might see during your flight, including:
Jedi Master Yoda
You’ll also meet brand-new Star Wars characters created especially for this attraction, like Star Tours Pilot Ace (AC-38), Spokesbot Aly San San and the lethal Imperial Skytroopers!
Star Tours uses state-of-the-art technology — including a flight-motion simulator vehicle, digital 3-D video, Audio Animatronics characters and in-cockpit special effects — to transport you to a “galaxy far, far away.” There’s nothing else like it on Earth … or any other planet!
#1: Space Mountain
Of COURSE Space Mountain is #1! I mean if that is the only ride you have time to ride in Tomorrowland you must ride it at least once. If you are like my family….well maybe 3 times in a row is good. Long line? Grab a fastpass. Regardless make sure you stop by and check this one out!
Rocket into the outer reaches of darkest space on this high-speed thrill ride that hurtles you into the final fun frontier!
Enter the crisp launch bay as it orbits a nearby planet. The bay welcomes you with its sweeping overhead lights and shiny metallic interior as imposing machinery captures your attention from above. Once you and your fellow space travelers are scanned and prepared by the control crews, board a sleek shuttle rocket and receive a safety check in the cockpit.
Once secured for take-off, your shuttle then enters the power generation room and the airlock is activated. Energy transfers from the power globes to your shuttle to prepare it for launch. As the universe dissolves before your eyes, Mission Control counts down…
The galaxy implodes before you, spiraling into a black hole! Hang on tight as your space craft dips and careens at supersonic speeds.
The onboard sound system is the first of its kind! The composer Aarin Richard fused two musical forms of the 1960s — surf music and iconic science fiction sounds — to create a special audio experience. Later, the composer Michael Giacchino — who scored the Lost TV show, Ratatouille and Up — wrote a whole new soundtrack featuring instruments both classical and electronic.
Get ready for the launch of your life!
So what do you think? Do you have something else you would add to the list or switch out? No matter what make sure you check out Tomorrowland on your next visit to Disneyland…..Speaking of Tomorrowland, the movie TOMORROWLAND with George Clooney opens tomorrow!
