Macy’s Great American Grilling Guru is an event that I had heard of but had never been to. Well that all changed on Saturday June 6th. The event was held at Macy’s Cool Springs Galleria location in Franklin Tennessee. If you haven’t heard of the event, let me give you a run down. Macy’s launched a search for the country’s most amazing grill cook. The contest started April 14th and ran through May 2nd. People all across the country sent in their pictures and recipes for a chance to compete for $10,000 and a trip to 2016 Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks in New York City. I wanted a shot at the tile!! Until….I saw the competition.
Oh my goodness, let me just give you a run down of the contestants and their entries. I couldn’t even remember the first three words much less how to cook it. so check this out below.
Roslyn from Smyrna Georgia had Sorghum Syrup Peanut Butter Spicy Baby Back Ribs. Now Roslyn blew the judges minds with the way that she was cooking the ribs on the grill. They said that the ribs were so tender and couldn’t believe she did that in the time that she had. I was hoping for just a little taste of those ribs, but, no luck.
Linda from Englewood Florida had Chorizo Bacon Double Burger with Beer Glazed Pickles and Onions. This thing was massive!! I have never seen anything so big and I don’t know how anyone could put their mouth around that thing. It looked absolutely amazing! Again, no hope for a taste!
Eric from Overland Parks Kansas, came to Tennessee claiming that his BBQ was better than Tennessee BBQ (he was kidding). He had Brazilian Chicken Lollipops & Spicy Caipirinha Rum Glaze. The judges were totally impressed by the Lollipops and were wowed by the fact that he served them a little cocktail to go with the dish.
Lauren from Dripping Springs Texas came to town with her Ancho Orange Grilled Shrimp Over Mexican Street Corn Polenta with Poblano Relish and Cilantro Vinaigrette. Say that name three times real fast. I am a Mexican street corn fan, so this one sounded outstanding. The judges loved the polenta flavor.
Adam was from right here in Franklin Tennessee. A home town hero!! He made Korean Barbecue Duck Crepe-Orito and Sweet Potato Salad with Ginger Dressing. Adam had a little set back at first. He cut his finger and needed medical attention. After getting that wrapped up, he was ready to go and ended up making an Amazing dish.
Veronica from Glastonbury Connecticut made All-American Grilled Duck Pizza with Firecracker Cherry Sauce and Charred Lemon Shallots. You heard me…she made a pizza on the grill. The judges we impressed by the way the crust turned out and they really enjoyed the pizza all together. I wanted some too…Just sayin.
Well it was now time for the judges to make a decision. Oh, don’t think that the judges were just some everyday average Joes. We had celebrity Chef Michelle Bernstein and celebrity Chef Stephanie Izard. Both of these ladies bring great experience and had a lot of feedback for the contestants. So, the moment that we were all waiting for. Who is going to be crowned Macy’s Great American Grilling Guru? Drum roll please! I don’t hear the drums!
Eric from Overland Parks Kansas!!! Way to go Eric and congratulations on winning $10,000 and a trip top Macy’s 2016 4th of July Fireworks in New York City! Great job to all of the contestants! What an event!
