I posted this on facebook a few days ago:
While I am a very public person some things I keep private. However I want to share an accomplishment with you. The past couple of months I’ve been eating healthier. My body craved it. I’ve never dieted bc I didn’t have the willpower. I found something that works for me. I started at 223 and was more concerned with being healthier than a number HOWEVER this is the first time in 11 years I have been UNDER 200 pounds!! Eek!!
It received a lot of attention and everyone was asking me what I did to lose the weight. First let me tell you what I did not do. I didn’t start off trying to lose weight. It all began a few months back. I travel a LOT for work and for family vacation. I started noticing my body craving fruit and greens. I mean craving them. So for breakfast I switched to fruit instead of eggs, bacon, biscuits, etc. I mean, who doesn’t love a good buffet bar. Yet, I resisted.
I also made the switch from Dr. Pepper to Diet Dr. Pepper and from then I started eating salad at least once a day. I noticed I lost about 7 pounds from doing this alone and that’s when I started talking to my husband about REALLY trying to get healthier and losing weight. Again, I want to stress I was happy with my image. I had grown to love my curves, but I was starting to feel even better. I had energy to do extra stuff around the house and more.
Brian goes on diets from time to time and always loses a ton so I asked him about the various ones, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins, Lowering Carbs, Paleo, all that jazz. I researched all the diets and also talked to my Doctor. Every single diet I looked at was more about restricting certain foods. I know my willpower. If you tell me I can’t have something then I’ll eat it just to spite you. That’s when my Doctor said I should just focus on calories and my husband said, “Hey there’s an App for that”
I know you are thinking: There’s an app for everything. Here’s why this app has worked for me and others:

So without telling anyone but my husband, and a few close friends. I started logging my calories. When you input your weight, and your goal weight it will give you your “recommended” calories per day. I started at a low goal weight. I just wanted to lose 25 pounds. Now that I have I lowered it another 25 and my calories per day I have set is 1200. Now with my 1200 calories I can eat whatever I want as long as I count them and believe me you can find anything in there. From Lean Cuisine meals, to 3 slices of kiwi, to 6 pieces of Kroger sushi, to a health.com recipe for zucchini fries.
So I log in my breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I choose healthier snacks instead of grabbing some chips or a poptart. I’ll go for tomatoes, fruit, or even skinny cow ice cream. Once I made it under 200 lbs. I celebrated. Even then I’ll eat smaller portions and try for the healthier choice, however, I don’t deny myself the occasional donut. I count those 260 calories and move on.
As for exercise I’m working on it. I downloaded a few apps for that as well. Check out the ones by runtastic. I use squats, six pack, and just got the butt trainer one. I’m not your typical girl figure, but I’m happy with myself. I’ve went from a size 20 to a size 16 and some even 14. I went shopping this weekend and saw curves I haven’t seen in years. As of right now I’m sticking to my 1200 calories a day. When I travel I do the best I can, but hey a girl needs her tequila sometimes too. Bottom line is I’m happy with myself and I SEE a difference. You just need to figure out what is good for you.
