I walked out of the theatre yesterday and had trouble forming sentences. My mind was still trying to process the movie. So a review without spoilers and without revealing any major plot points, but still conveying how much I loved this film. Sounds impossible, but I’m up for the challenge. I’ll take the approach with questions people have asked since I’ve seen it
Did JJ Abrams deliver?
First and foremost let me say YES. JJ Abrams did it. He took the nosalgia of the old films and combined it with a great story for the new audiences and it was brilliant. Everyone I’ve talked to about this film has been nervous…myself included, but again I have to give props to JJ and everyone else that worked so hard on this film and make it both what the fans want to see and also a service to the legacy itself.
So what we KNOW about the movie is basically this:
Which in itself is a lot, but the best thing? Everything NOT in the trailer or that may be in it and you have no context about it. There’s SOOO much to this movie. I laughed, I got the feels, my heart grew two sizes and yes I cried. I can not say how AWESOME this movie is.
Please tell me the CGI is better than the prequels?
One thing that has bugged me about the prequels is the horrendous CGI. In The Force Awakens JJ went back and did a lot more practical effects. Even going so far as using the same lens on a few scenes and you can tell. It has the look and feel of the orig trig, BUT updated. I felt like I could easily be transported in the Star Wars universe.
SPOILER FREE ZONE
The thing about the world we live in today is that all the answers are at fingertips. Sometimes even I look forward to reading spoilers. Sometimes I shout spoilers on the rooftop of my social media. With movies we obsess over every frame in the trailer and 9 times out of 10 have pretty much figured out what the movie is about anyway. With The Force Awakens is is the exact opposite. Heck, even Chrome has an extension that will help you avoid spoilers. People that have seen the film are being respectful for the most part and giving reviews or chatting on social with as few words as possible. Now a week after the release I hope you come back so we can chat about The Force Awakens with all the spoilers, but until then I hope this post helped somewhat and now….GO SEE THE MOVIE when it hits theaters THIS FRIDAY December 18!!
