One thing I wanted to do more of in 2016 was to journal during my travels. The only problem was that I want to share them with you guys too. So I figure after each adventure I’ll just post an entry with my rants, musings, and observations. Maybe you guys will like it….maybe it’s just mindless dribble. Who knows, but I’m excited to share some entries while I was traveling to Orlando 3/2-3/5. Play catch up and read previous entries: #TravelJournal2016
San Diego is a FUN town
I didn’t have enough time to fully explore it, but this is my 3rd time to the city and I still can’t get over how beautiful it is. The weather is perfect and every where you look you see something new and breathtakingly beautiful, but most of all it’s a FUN town. Every place I went too had a good vibe about it. The people were super nice and I’m trying to plan a little detour back again later in there so I can fully experience all the hidden gems.
DO NOT MESS with the Jumping Cholla Cactus
Say it out loud 5 times. It sounds ridiculous I know, but these things are REAL and super crazy as my poor friend Kristy from MeetKristy.com found out.
The “jumping cholla” name comes from the ease with which the stems detach when brushed, and sometimes they even jump short distances. Often the merest touch will leave a person with bits of cactus hanging on their clothes to be discovered later when either sitting or leaning on them. The ground around a mature plant will often be covered with dead stems, and young plants are started from stems that have fallen from the adult. They attach themselves to desert animals and are dispersed for short distances.
So legit. We were in the desert minding our own business. Driving the awesome Kia Sportage which I will tell you all about later through the desert and taking pictures. At one stop we tromped through the desert to get the best picture and all of the sidden Kristy SCREAM bloody murder. Tara from TrippinWithTara.com and I looked at each other and SCREAMED too. We didn’t know what was going on, but SOMETHING was happening. When we looked over and saw poor Kristy with a cactus literally hanging off her jeans. It was a big piece that JUMPED over at her. It was attached to her poor leg like velcro. This is where I’m totally honest and tell you that if it was my kid…well let’s just say I didn’t handle it well. I knew she was in pain, but I was dumbfounded as to what to do and of course we had no service as we were in the desert. Luckily Tara stepped up to the plate and began trying to pull it off her. I found a stick and gave it to Tara. That was my contribution to the effort in saving Kristy. Tara finally was able to literally rip it out of her skin and I’ll be DAMNED if it didn’t jump to her foot. I can’t make this ish up people. It JUMPED from her leg to her foot. A few more screams and cursing later we were able to get it off her. Throughout the rest of the day Kristy had to use tweezers and take the barbs out of her leg. CRAZIEST thing I have ever seen in my life and while the desrt was beautiful we also saw why it’s deadly so heed my advice and don’t get within a meter of this fracking cactus.
Music Makes the World Go Round
Last week I talked about dance parties, but this week I want to talk about music period. I heard many different songs on my trip through San Diego and every song meant something different. I rapped, I got down to some Sublime and some ska, had my heart leap to Bon Jovi and more. Music is the universal language and again I’m saying you should listen to at least a song a day. Screw the apple a day saying. A song a day (any song) can bring a soundtrack to your life and bring all the feels. So whatever type of music you have on your playlist, go take a listen and smile. You will feel better I promise.
That’s it for this week. I’m home till the 22nd then I’m off to NYC the city that never sleeps and I’m sure shenanigans will happen.
