The series centers on a team of four teenage boys who take on the responsibility of controlling a giant robot, named MECH-X4, to protect their city from danger.
Newcomer Nathaniel James Potvin stars as Ryan Walker, a freshman at Bay City High who has technopathy – the extraordinary ability to control technology with his mind. His talent mysteriously awakens MECH-X4, which was built by an elusive genius-in-hiding to defend their town against impending doom. Ryan then recruits his older brother and two best friends to help him operate the 120-foot tall robot. However, when monsters suddenly begin to descend upon their city, the four must quickly learn to work together to pilot the robot and save humanity.
About a month ago I had time to see a few episodes of this show and chat with the creators as well as the cast. First, let me say that this show is pretty flipping cool. I think kids AND parents will enjoy it. I can describe it as Power Rangers melds with the Avengers. I mean don’t we all wish we could have a superpower AND a giant robot?
Here are a few fun facts from the cast and creators:
*NATHANIEL POTVIN: I think my favorite scene from the first episode… was actually first getting in the harness, and jumping up in the air and just stepping as the robot.
*PEARCE JOZA lived in Colorado for a long time so he likes to go out back and, play in the pond and climb trees or whatever. He also loves school. He’s taking college level courses
*The creators added hints of The Goonies and E.T. to the show as they where their inspirations
*We do two half-hour episodes every night, over nine days. We’re in the Robot set three to four days, and then we’re just out in Vancouver, doing movie stuff for five days – whether it’s sunny or rainy, or, whatever it is. There’s a crew up there that just deals with it, and makes it great every day in; day out, episode after episode.
