I absolutely love my job. While my job may not be very typical it is extremely rewarding. The brands I work with I really have a passion for them and I’m proud to say that my year as a Kia Ambassador has been a good one. Being team Kia has even trickled down into my family. I thought I’d share a little bit about my life as a Kia Ambassador this year and all of the awesome vehicles and news they announced.
Kia’s Autonomous Soul EV
January started off with a bang. Kia announced their Autonomous Soul EV at CES and I actually rode in one at their Super Secret California Proving Grounds! Autonomous driving is growing in leaps and bounds. By 2020, Kia aims to introduce its first partially-autonomous car with DRIVE WISE technologies, building upon the current generation of driver-assistance systems. I’m a techno nerd to my soul so it was fascinating to see this evolution of tech/driving.
Kia Telluride Announced at Detroit Auto Show
Then it was off to Detroit where the Telluride was announced! While it was super cold I still managed to have a blast and Kia was rocking with their announcement here. This was probably one of my favorite concepts ever. It had me pleading to make this concept a reality.
Glimpsing a future that is grounded in reality but not bound by the present, Kia Motors America (KMA) unveiled a cutting-edge vision for a full-size SUV at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The Telluride, a striking three-row, seven-passenger, luxury SUV concept features a modern and upright shape, muscular stance, and state-of-the-art technology to care for its occupants. Purely conceptual, the Kia Telluride is based on an existing platform and reveals the brand’s interest in potentially offering a premium SUV positioned above the current hot-selling Sorento.
The fascinating thing with the Telluride was the LER system. All four seats include a series of precise diamond-cut openings in the seatback, each embedded with Smart Sensors to capture a passenger’s vital health information. Once obtained, these vitals are displayed on the interior door panel screens, which then systematically synchronize with a Light Emitted Rejuvenation (LER) system. The LER system utilizes a massive, wing-shaped LED panel mounted beneath the oversized sunroof that displays a pattern of therapeutic light to treat desynchronosis (jetlag) and improve the passengers’ energy levels. Don’t we all need this wizardry in our lives?
#AddPizzazz to Your Life with Kia
The SUPERBOWL arrived and with that Kia came with Pizzazz and Christopher Walken to brighten up our commercials and had my family in stitches. As a family, we took the Optima and added our own Pizzazz to a fun, quick photoshoot. Needless to say those socks and the Optima were never the same.

It was only February, but Kia was STILL in the news and making debuts!
Kia Sets the Tone for the Chicago Auto Show with 3 Global Debuts
In Chicago, they debuted the Kia Niro Hybrid Utility Vehicle, 2017 Kia Optima Plug in Hybrid, as well as the All New Kia Optima Hybrid which is all amazing, but I truly feel like the Niro dominated.
“The Niro hits the sweet spot by offering the best combination of outstanding mpg, an engaging driving experience, utility, and most importantly, a stunning design that doesn’t shout ‘hybrid,’” said Orth Hedrick, vice president product planning KMA. “The subcompact CUV market continues to be one of the fastest-growing segments in the world, and the Niro offers a uniquely alluring yet practical package that consumers haven’t seen before.”
Like I said above the Niro dominated the show for me and I will definitely be talking a lot more about this particular vehicle in 2017 so stay tuned!
Rocking out with the 2017 Kia Sportage
Then it was off to San Diego to test drive the All New 2017 Kia Sportage. One of my favorite cities with one of my favorite brands. It was a match made in heaven from the start of the event. Good food, great people, a fabulous vehicle, and some rock n roll. Needless to say, I had an incredible time. The Sportage has always been one of my favorites and a few friends and I even took the Harman Kardon® premium audio system through its paces and did a lip synch video.
A Family Day at The Golf Course #KiaClassic
To celebrate the SEVENTH ANNUAL LPGA KIA CLASSIC I took the kiddos to their very first Golf Lesson. 144 of the world’s best players competed for the $1.7 million purse along with the winner driving off with a Kia K900 luxury sedan. While we were learning the basics. Since then they’ve had 2 more lessons on our own and we also had a few family golf days. Although if I’m honest I just like driving the cart and watching everyone else play.
My absolute highlight of my year as a Kia Ambassador was the #SedonaFamily trip. One of the biggest reasons why I continue to work with Kia is that they let bring my family along for the ride. So all 4 of us packed up and headed to Orlando to ride around in the Kia Sedona family van and explore Orlando. We went to the Kennedy Space Center (a first) and Universal Studios. The kids always share on social media as we travel, but this trip had them sharing more. They would double check the hashtag just to make sure they had it right and were talking about the features they enjoy the best in the Sedona along with all the fun they were having. We might have spent an entire day at Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I might have had one too many butterbeers, but hey you can’t say we didn’t have fun!
That was only my highlights. I also had a contributor out to Virginia to check out the Cadenza and to San Francisco to test drive the Soul Turbo. All in all, it was a fantastic year for Kia and they are not letting up anytime soon. In fact make sure you check out The Curve Ahead which teases a little bit about what Kia has in store for 2017. It’s going to be an even BIGGER year for Kia and I can’t wait to share with you from the sidelines.
***Disclosure: As a Kia Ambassador I share fun news and info all about Kia and their latest vehicles coming out. I also document #MyKiaLife in our long term Kia. All opinions are 100% mine. ***
