“A US game show hosted by Fred Savage, and features adult contestants and interactions between Ricky Gervaise and a group of 5 kids who say the most unpredictable things.”
I know what you are thinking…a game show called Child Support? What is this? Everyone loves a good game show…one hosted my childhood hero Fred Savage? I’m in! Last month I was out in LA for the #ABCTVEvent and I was able to screen this fun new game show that features Ricky Gervais and a group of 5 kids who say the most unpredictable and super funny things and also chat a bit with Fred Savage.

About the Name “Child Support”
Like I said above…whenever anyone hears the words “child support” they immediately think of something…not pleasant…let’s say. Even the host had thoughts about that: “I was like, I don’t know about that. That was the first time I called Ricky. This is not something that people have a very positive association with. Do we want to be the face of child support? He had similar reservations and he had a lot of trust— he’s like, look, there’s no better network who’s looking out for families than ABC and Disney, and they’re not gonna do anything that’s going to be inappropriate or negative or hurtful for kids or any of that stuff.”
A Family Friendly Game Show
The thing I really enjoyed about this show is that it truly is family friendly. Kids will laugh. Adults will laugh. Everyone can have a chat and guess answers. Fred Savage said, “Going into it, I thought it was something I would want to watch with my kids— I wanted to make sure that it was appropriate. That it was not a lot of ‘winky winky’ innuendos and entendres.
As someone who works with kids, I don’t think it’s funny to take advantage of their innocence or naiveté to get comedy. As a parent, I think that innuendo is still treading in kind of inappropriate water, so I wanted to make sure going in that we weren’t getting comedy out of suggestive things that kids shouldn’t be talking about, and Banijay was totally on board. This is definitely a family show and it’s something I want to watch with my kids.”
Inner Game Show Host
Personally I grew up watching Fred Savage on my tv screen every week. How did he make the leap from actor to game show host? “I mean, the biggest thing because before we started shooting, I would go out and say hello to the audience and just say, like, I have no idea how I became a game show host. This was not like, a goal of mine, everyone like my wife or friends afterwards would be like, so like, how was it? Like, what did you learn? What’d you find out? And I’m like, I learned that I really have this inner game show host just dying to get out I didn’t even know it was there.”
